It’s that time of the year again! If you’re still looking for some red carpet worthy, brilliant and clean economy focused people to invite to your student gala, look no further.
A super couple is “a popular or wealthy pairing that intrigues and fascinates the public in an intense or obsessive fashion,” so says Wikipedia.
The three couples we’ve carefully selected for your gala are extremely wealthy indeed, and may be particularly interested in attending your party.
Mark Zuckerberg and Dr. Priscilla Chan
— Uber Geek (@supergeekland) January 22, 2016
Facebook billionaire Mark and his wife Priscilla, a pediatrician, are founders of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
They have $46 billion to spend, are looking for projects that can deliver real change and have repeatedly called for climate action.
On their Facebook page, they say: “We must build technology to make change. Many institutions invest money in these challenges, but most progress comes from productivity gains through innovation.”
Top Tip: Pitch your change project and student gala to Caitlyn Fox, chief of staff at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. You’ll find her on LinkedIn.
Zhang Xin and Mr. Pan Shiyi
Founder and CEO of real-estate giant SOHO China, Zhang Xin, and her husband co-founder Pan Shiyi, are part of a group of billionaires – along with the other couples on our list – who set up an investment club called the Breakthrough Energy Coalition.
The billionaire club says the world needs widely available energy that is reliable, affordable and does not produce carbon. “The only way to accomplish that goal is by developing new tools to power the world,” their website states. Xin’s net-worth is $2.8 billion, as estimated by Forbes, so she has ample opportunity to invest.
Top Tip: This couple may be a great match if you are particularly into reducing the carbon output of cities and buildings. Check out SOHO China’s tender page to see if anything matches your project. If so, apply and send your gala invitation!

Bill got rich because everyone in the world bought Microsoft Windows. Now, together with his partner Melinda, he is giving back to the world.
The super couple runs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a charity is focused on education, healthcare and ending poverty – with a particular focus on the developing world.
The foundation sits on $44.3 billion and is one of the leaders in what is known as venture philanthropy.
Top Tip: Check out their Request For Proposal (RFP) page to see what their interest-du-jour is. Find something that matches your project? Apply, and include an invitation to your student gala! No RFP matches your project? Occasionally, they award grants through letters of inquiry —send yours to Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, P.O. Box 23350, Seattle, WA 98102.
